NESBA Winter 2020 comes to a close!!!! 03/13

It is with a heavy heart that I post this to all of you. After much deliberation and trying to give all sides equal consideration the executive board of NESBA has unanimously voted to suspend all remaining events for the winter 2020 season due to Covid-19. This abrupt end of the season comes with several emotions for all of our performers and staffs. However, the safety of all of those involved must be our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and support in this difficult time. Please stay SAFE and HEALTHY!!!


With the current state of emergency regarding Covid-19 (coronavirus) NESBA, in agreement with the administrations of our sponsoring schools, have made some significant adjustments to the schedule for the end of the season.

In order to accommodate the number of bands in the show NESBA will be moving the start time to 2:00 PM. This will allow all bands an opportunity to compete and return home at a safe time. THE NEW PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE IS UPDATED!!!

Dover NH Show 03/09

Together with the administrative team of Dover HS we are monitoring the weather system that is coming in tomorrow. We will keep a very close eye on things and make a determination by early morning tomorrow. We want to make sure we take the safety and well being of all into consideration. NESBA is in contact with the host schools and administrations and will make a decision this afternoon about the possibility of the shows continuing as planned. NESBA Fall Finals 11/02

A few reminders for the day. Turn your clocks back Saturday evening. Please remember this event is CASH ONLY there are no debit or credit card transactions for admission. Admission prices are $15.00 adults and $10.00 HS students and senior citizens. Children under 5 are admitted for free.Please be respectful of our admission policy, a hand stamp or wristband will be required at every entrance in to the stadium If construction is underway on Osgood Street, parking could be restricted near the stadium. Please be aware of that. Best of luck to all the bands and lets make this a great event!


Congratulations to all on completing the regular season of marching band competitions. A special Thank You to Reading High School on hosting our event for this weekend. The Reading show will be moving inside as a standstill only performance. A new warm up schedule is located as a download packet on line. There will be no scores but a unit leader only retreat to acknowledge all units performing.

Our first double weekend of show for the season was a GREAT success!!!! A special thank you to Wakefield High School for navigating thru the weather and pulling off a smooth and exciting show. Another big THANKS to the New Bedford High School music department for taking on the task of a Sunday Show!!! A great success all around. Next weekend we will be at Billerica High School. On September 22nd and 23rd auditions will be held at the Breed Middle School in Lynn, MA for both our Open and World teams. Please bring your own equipment if possible. Scholarships... 02/02

NESBA offers TWO scholarships at Guard Finals and TWO scholarships at percussion finals. Please click on the scholarship tab (located on the web site) to submit your information. This year, one of the two guard scholarships will be in memory of Frank Morris. Frank was an active judge and member of the NESBA community for many, many years. Applications are due by March 15th.

Evaluation Show Reminders 01/22

Good luck to everyone attending the Evaluation Show this weekend. Please remember that if you are in the second half of the show you MUST sign up for critique at the Unit Check In door. If you do not sign up we will not have a time established for you to attend critique. Please remember to have your unit director pick up staff badges at Unit Check In. Thanks.

Finals Tickets and Contracts 01/18

Finals Tickets and Contracts will be available for all groups to pick up at the 1/27/18 Guard Eval Show in Salem MA, The Tewksbury Show 2/3/18 and at the Dartmouth Show 2/24/18. Please make sure your representative is able to pick up tickets for all groups guard and percussion. For those of you attending the percussion visual clinic on 1/20/18 tickets and contracts will be available there as well. Badges will be available at the shows.

Winter Meeting Cancelled 01/16

We have decided to cancel the winter meeting due to the weather. Please note that all badges can be picked up at the Evaluation show and at the next few shows for those groups not there. January reminders. Wednesday January 17th Winter General Body Meeting Wakefield HS (Band Room) 6PM start. Percussion Visual Clinic 11/29

On Saturday, January 20th NESBA and MJA will be hosting a visual percussion education session with host clinician Austin Greene. Austin is a current WGI visual percussion judge and will focus on both visual percussion sheets. We are asking all percussion units to send at least ONE REPRESENTATIVE to the meeting. The meeting will be held at Salem MA HS starting at Noon.

In Memory of Paul Cain 09/22

On behalf of the entire NESBA organization we would like to take a moment and extend our best wishes to the family and friends of our dear friend Paul Cain. Paul was a huge influence on many of our NESBA events over the past 40 years. June Meeting Updates 06/06

Two proposal changes from the meeting... 1) Awards will be given to all units at all finals. 2) The NESBA/Local norm will be followed for all classes winter guard, percussion and fall band. Units traveling to national competitions will need to be aware of the national scoring structure as they travel. All positions on the executive board remain the same as last year, except for secretary which is now being held by Haley Rello from Medford HS. Have a great summer everyone!

Policy requests for June 5 meeting 05/23

Two policy requests were approved to be discussed at the June 5th All Member meeting at Everett HS. 1) A plaque be awarded to all units attending NESBA championship events. Not just 1st 2nd and 3rd. 2) All color guard classes be evaluated on a local norm. No longer use a WGI national norm for the upper classes. The June meeting starts at 6PM. Thank you.

Welcome to Winter Guard Finals... 04/14

Looks like a great day for Guard Finals. The show starts at 11AM tomorrow, 4/15/17 at Salem MA HS. Guard Tickets from DCU are valid for entry. This is a cash only event and tickets at the door are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for high school students and senior citizens. Please come and support these great performers as we wrap up the 2017 winter season!

MJA/Movement Class 04/14

On June 10th 8:00AM to 12:30PM (Location TBA) MJA will sponsor a movement clinic with WGI/MJA judge Hieu Nguyen. The costs is $15.00 per person. Guard Finals Week!!! 04/10

Schedules are set for this Saturday as we celebrate the end of the 2017 winter season and the 40th anniversary of NESBA. On top of watching all our guards.. we are now home to the WGI Silver Medalist Dartmouth HS Winter Guard and to the Bronze Medalist Blessed Sacrament World Guard. DCU Ticket Info 03/06

All seats for the Winter Championships are General Admission. Tickets can only be purchased the day of the event. Please remember that there are two different tickets for the days events. One for percussion finals and one for guard. Tickets are $22.00 each. If you plan on staying for both shows you will need to purchase one ticket for each event.

Winter General Body Meeting 12/07

A reminder that the winter meeting will take place at Medford HS on Monday January 11th 6:15PM. Tickets for finals, badges, review of the winter season and recognition of fall champions will take place at the meeting. There will be a light buffet of food available before the meeting. Clinic Reminders. 12/02

Please remember to enter the school through the front doors. Student/Staff registration will begin at 9AM. Lunch will be served to all registered participants only at Noon. Percussion staff and judges be reminded that Tim Fairbanks clinic will begin with lunch at Noon and we welcome you to come early and meet Karl Lowe. For students, this is a movement and performance based clinic. You can bring your equipment, but please remember this is a movement/dance clinic. Our clinicians for the day are Carol Abohatab from Santa Clara Vanguard, Karl Lowe WGI Education Director and Tim Fairbanks Percussion Education Team.

December 5th Clinic Information 11/28

Clinic emails have been sent to all those who registered for the 2015 WGI/NESBA Clinic. Check in will begin at 9AM and the first class session will begin at 10AM. Box lunches will be provided for all registered participants at noon and the day will conclude at 4PM. MJA members are reminded that the MJA annual meeting will take place at 9AM in the school library. We look forward to seeing everyone!!!

Championships Information. 10/19

The info packet for championships will be posted later this week. The order of appearance will not be updated until Monday October 26th. Please note, that bands DO NOT have to provide volunteers for this years show. Championships will begin at 10AM on Sunday November 1st at Lawrence Stadium.

Critiques for Billerica and Reading Shows 10/12

There are two award ceremonies at the Billerica and Reading shows. However, there will only be ONE CRITIQUE at the end of the show. The critiques will only be one hour long. Please plan accordingly. Thank you.

The All Member Meeting will be held at Medford HS 489 Winthrop St Medford MA. Please enter through the main school doors and signs will direct you to the meeting room. Blessed Sacrament will be hosting a Spin With Sac Day on Sunday September 13th from 10AM to 4PM at the Breed Middle School in Lynn. WGI Clinic and NESBA 08/28

We are very excited to announce that we will be hosting a dance and choreography clinic with WGI clinicians on Saturday December 5th at Salem MA HS. Guard staff and judges will also have a chance to sit and meet with members of the WGI education team. There will also be a percussion clinic featuring Tim Fairbanks from WGI for all percussion staff and judges the same day. More details will follow soon after Labor Day weekend. Registration will be required and costs for students attending will be $10.00 a piece which will include the clinic and lunch.

In Memory of Jack Hahn 06/24

We would like to take a moment and thank our dear friend Jack Hahn who passed away this past weekend. Jack was the Treasurer for NESBA over many years and was instrumental in helping us be the organization we have become today. Jack was also a great musician and band director in the local area. Our best wishes to Jack's family.

June 15 General Body Meeting Reminder 06/03

The June meeting will take place at Weymouth HS (6PM) (Resource Room) enter through doors located across from tennis courts. There are three by law/rule policies to be voted on: 1) Addition of Executive Board Removal Clause to By Laws 2) Amendment to At large positions to include one guard, one percussion and two band directors (effective June 2015 if passed) 3) Request to have NSA class be evaluated on national norm not class norm. Just a reminder that all guards need to enter the school from the rear entrance for registration today. Parking for busses and trucks will be in the back lot. With such a large LSRA Class, we have broken the class up into two segments. LSRA and LSRAA. Schedule changes reflecting these adjustments will take place Monday morning and will impact schedules for all shows from this point forward. For units attending the St Ann's show.. please note that because of the large number of percussion groups, guard units MAY NOT bring equipment into the building before 5PM unless you are one of the first few guards on in the show. Floors and Props 02/18

Just a reminder- that we would appreciate everyone using the Horizontal Time Line for bringing floors and props on to the performance area. Floors should open from the back of the floor and unfold forward. As you exit the floor, we ask that you move your props and floors forward to the front to make room on the back side line for the next unit. Each show has different door configurations. Please make sure you have enough help at each event.

Dartmouth Percussion Clinic Info 02/17

For percussion units registered in the Dartmouth show and attending the clinic, the clinic will start at 9AM and end by 11AM. The percussion portion of the show will start at Noon.. followed by the guard portion. Please remember that the cafe will be open all morning and afternoon and that parents may unload eqpt for the first classes of percussion in the early morning. Thank you!

Melrose Show Cancelled 02/08

The Melrose show will not take place on Sunday. The chance of heavy snow and any chances of driving concerns are the reason for the show not to take place. We want to thank the Triton parent organization for hosting on Saturday and wish everyone a safe next few days in the storm.

Welcome to the 2015 winter guard and percussion season! The winter guard evaluation show will take place this Saturday at 3PM in Salem MA. Doors will open at 2PM. Power and Extension Cords at shows.. 01/16

As a follow up to the questions asked at the General Body Meeting. All show hosts are reminded to have electrical power and at least 50 foot heavy duty power cords at the front and back side line of all events. All percussion can use electronics as well as World Guards. A and Open guards are reminded that use of electrical power is not allowed. Units must always remember to bring extra extension cords if needed as show host and NESBA are not always aware of a units need for length of power cords or number of secure plug ins. Please refer to the 2015 WGI manuals for more details under your sign in account information.
